Nation Wide Student Competition - Top 10 Finalists in South Africa
Through the brief investigation, conceptualisation and development of a residential design model, aimed at middle-income earners, to help facilitate their housing programme. The aim is to improve perceptions of urban compaction and attract the growing band of middle-income earners to the city.
The space that has to be created, with which residents can easily identify and communicate. The design must take the residents on a journey, starting with an attractive and engaging street front, across an inviting threshold and on to a comfortable and relaxed living experience within.

People’s needs change over time, with things such as growing families. Demonstrate how the residential spaces within your design can dynamically expand, to create more living space, but without claiming new ground. Conversely, the spaces should have the ability to be reset if no longer required.  This is a class densification programme, so the design is to conform to reasonable living spaces.

The design proposal must also be capable of achieving a green building certification, therefore environmentally sustainable practices and materials must be included. Demonstrate your understanding of the properties of the site, by incorporating them into your design. Proposed interventions should be as realistic as possible rather than hypothetical submissions. The design must include interesting and innovative use of PG Bison products to facilitate the look and feel of your design, be it movable furniture or interior fittings and fixtures.
